The landscaping is underway, the concrete is poured and palm trees grace the newly laid walkways. With construction in high gear, residents of San Bernardino are witnessing a revitalization of the downtown area. At the heart of this is the highly anticipated Theater Square with its centerpiece the Regal Cinemas Stadium 14, opening this summer. “Our residents deserve a quality downtown theater where they can enjoy dinner and experience a movie,” said Chief Executive Officer of the San Bernardino Economic Development Corporation, Emil Marzullo. “Our businesses need this too, a flourishing downtown means we are better equipped to strengthen our local economy and to attract more people to the downtown to spend money with our existing businesses.” Located at 450 North E Street, home of the previous cinema, Regal will operate 14 of the pre-existing 20 screens.
“Regal Entertainment Group is thrilled to be part of this exciting Theater Square development in downtown San Bernardino,” stated Vice President of Marketing and Communication for Regal Entertainment Group, Russ Nunley. “Crews have been working hard to create a totally modern cinema designed to impress moviegoers. Already interest is high as Regal has received hundreds of employment applications.”

Job opportunities are another benefit of the Theatre Square revitalization.
All too often we hear about the corruption of a city or other negative stories about the crime within a city. Well, this story that had its ups and downs but it is amazing what people who care about others along with the city could do together to help the community.

The story all started in 2010 in the High Desert City Of Adelanto, an extraordinary woman named Lisa Anderson, was inspired after attending another local kids clothing swap in a neighboring city. Lisa is a woman that regardless of her own occasional struggles always helped others how she could so it was no surprise when she decided to start her own swap that started off as a teen and adult clothing swap. What she has built through her persistence and love for helping others has been a godsend to many people in the High Desert. “Some of our members come in desperate need of clothing for them or their children, some just enjoy swapping their clothing and then there are also those who only give the clothing they no longer need” said Lisa.

Swapping Mamas had their first clothing swap in September of 2010 and since has grown to carry all sizes of clothing from the smallest baby sizes all the way up to Plus sizes and Big and Tall sizes mens sizes. Swapping Mamas also has a Thanksgiving Basket giveaway where they were able to help many families in need of a Thanksgiving Dinner and a once yearly Christmas toy swap to help those in need with gently used toys to give to their children for Christmas. As always, they are collecting clothes, and shoes but this year they are also motivated to have a large toy swap to help many more families this year than they did last year. “I just keep thinking that people are always clearing out their kids toys and if we can start collecting them now then more families can get help for the holidays” said Raquel Gregory, a Swapping Mamas volunteer.

The first clothing swap was small but the attendance has since grown a lot. “We believe that since one person usually signs in and chooses things for their family the people receiving clothing would be 100-150 per monthly or semimonthly clothing swap”, said Christie Martin, a swapping Mamas volunteer. Swapping Mamas helps everyone who comes, regardless if they have an initial clothing donation. “We ask all members to bring what they can and take what is needed for their family. We figure by the second or third swap they attend they should be able to start swapping” Christie added.

Since Swapping Mamas is strictly not for profit and no money is ever exchanged they depend on the help of the community and their volunteers to help with supplies like storage totes, trash bags and other needed supplies. The volunteers do some pick ups of clothing, shoes, toys or other small items that people choose to give to help Swapping Mamas members. They have several drop off locations in the High Desert for members who can to drop off at their convenience. Volunteer also sort clothing, sometimes wash clothing, set up and clean up after each swap held. Some volunteers are regular long term volunteers and others volunteer time, which is all appreciated and needed to make the swaps work. “ I know I do a lot on the days of swaps but just wish I could give more. I will be at the next swap even if I have to take the bus.” said Denise Dale, an obviously very dedicated long term Swapping Mamas volunteer.

On the March 10, 2012, Lisa and her volunteers got a surprise visit at her home where the swaps were being held. “Code Enforcement came, they were confused as to what we were doing. After explaining it to the Code Enforcement officer he mentioned that he was not sure if it would be something we could continue to do or if we needed some type of permit to continue. He gave us a card and asked us to speak with someone in the Adelanto City hall who handled business licenses.” said Lisa Anderson. Lisa and the volunteers were worried that the city could stop the swaps that so many depended on. On Monday, March 12th two volunteers went to speak with the person they were referred to speak with and by the end of the discussion the answer was still one that could have put the swaps in jeopardy.

One of the volunteers, Raquel Gregory, got in contact with the Mayor to let her know the situation and ask for her assistance. The Mayor quickly replied and let Raquel know that she had forwarded the information to the City Manager. The city Manager called Raquel and set up a meeting to figure things out on Thursday March 15, 2012. “That felt like the longest three days of our lives” said Lisa Anderson. During the meeting with the Jim Hart, City Manager and Rick Gomez, Director of Development Services Lisa and her volunteers were both relieved with ideas brought to them and amazed with the support and generosity of the City of Adelanto. The meeting was a success, the City of Adelanto agreed to allow Swapping Mamas to have the swaps held at the Adelanto Community Center in order to allow the community assistance to continue. “We went prepared for a fight and we were pleasantly surprised by the city’s support for our group and the mission to help our community” said Raquel.

The millennial generation, and the companies that employ them, are changing the current work for hire landscape. Unlike their parents, most workers between the ages of 18 and 30 don’t see themselves
beholden to a J O B. In addition, millennials don’t necessarily make their decision to accept employmentbased on the amount of cash the firm pays. Instead, they want a fun place to work with plenty of perks.

According to the 2010 study conducted by the Pew Research Center, the millennial generation is likely
to be the most educated generation in history. Soon, they will make up over half of the world’s work
force. They also face the longest number of years to work than any other work-group.
Armed with a high self esteem, an abundance of confidence, and an instinctive out of the box thought
process, millennials have hit the pavement in pursuit of an entertaining place to work with plenty of dayto day gratuities. And companies like HotSchedules – an app development firm, are giving them whatthey want. iPhones and iPads. A laundry list of games to play at work. On-site massages. Unlimited paidvacation (as long as you can get your work done of course). Pizza. Hot fudge sundaes. Harmless prankson employees. These are just a few of the “privileges” available to those lucky enough to get hired toshare their blood, sweat, and tears at this particular tech company.

Nice work if you can get it, is probably what most baby boomers would say. After all, they were taught
that if a company was willing to employ them for 20 to 30 years, and then pay for a retirement when the
employee turned between 50 and 65 years of age, the employee owes their life to that company. And to
be a good worker meant to show up for work everyday and focus on nothing except the job duties.
“Geners” on the other hand, are not expected to have an opportunity to retire at age 50 or 60. Heck,
they are not likely to have an opportunity to retire at age 70 or even 75. That’s why millennials say they
don’t want to make the same mistake they think their parents made by giving up their entire life for
work. Instead, millennials expect to find those things that will make a probable 50 year work history
enjoyable. They want to be as happy at work as they are outside of work.

Dating for a single christian, in many ways is not easy. For those of you who are walking as close to Christ as you can, know what I am talking about. Since we are all on different levels in our walk, your date may not be disciplined in some areas as yourself. This can cause some very uncomfortable situations to occur. This brings to my mind a date I was on where my date wanted to place his hands on me in areas I felt was a violation to me as a woman of God. In my spirit I knew this was not right. There were moments during the date when my date started to say some very enticing things. This also made me very uncomfortable during our date. I don’t know about you, but at times I believe we all get lonely for the attention, the touch, the affection, and closeness of the opposite sex. Satan will use your weak moments for his victory, brothers and sisters in Christ be aware of this. We are very vulnerable when we have not had a date or relationship for a long period of time. It does not matter how saved, sanctified, filled with the Holy Ghost, speaking in tongues saint you are, Satan will tempt you in your flesh during most dates. In God’s word, (I Corth. 10:13) says, “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to Man”, but GOD IS FAITHFUL, who will not suffer you to be tempted above ye are able; but with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it:.

Moments during my date I found myself trying to get my date on track by quoting scripture, reminding him about what God had to say about this. For a few hours it seemed to work, then our date found itself back into those uncomfortable situations. Hey! sometimes you have to put your foot down and be “UP FRONT”. Sometimes we are afraid to hurt feelings, or think we might lose a friendship. Honesty is and always will be the best policy. I believe a person will respect you more by letting them know you have limits as a woman or man of God. We are NOT saved to please man, but to please and walk as close to God as we can. Don’t compromise or sacrifice to satisfy the flesh of your date or yourself. There is a heavy price to pay for sin. Such prices as Grieving the spirit of God, AIDS, Unexpected pregnancy, STD, etc. When we sin, we sin not against ourselves, but against God. Our bodies no longer belong to us, but to God.

Sexual sin is the only sin that affects the body. Our bodies is the home of the Holy Spirit, that God gave us so He can live within us. (I Corth. 6:20) say, for ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are Gods. Mature Christians I want to say to you that “I Love You”, and God loves you too. I thank God for giving the inspiration to write to you. We would love to get more responses from you. We thank those who have call and wrote, your responses are important. Stay prayerful and be blessed.
